Global Platform for Advancing Solar Transition in all SIDS

The SIDS Platform:
Guided by the Ocean,
Powered by the Sun

Why SIDS Platform was Needed?

Island Energy Systems Face Structural Barriers no Single Actor can Solve

Diesel
Dependence

Diesel Dependence

Many SIDS rely on imported diesel for over 80% of electricity, locking in volatile fuel costs and emissions for decades.

High
Electricity Costs

High Electricity Costs

Households and businesses face tariffs three to five times the global average, slowing development and competitiveness.

Climate
Vulnerability

Climate Vulnerability

Cyclones, sea level rise, and grid fragility expose energy systems built for a different era.

Fragmented
Coordination

Fragmented Coordination

Siloed projects, incompatible data, and limited scale prevent regional solutions from emerging.

The SIDS Platform responds to these constraints through a coordinated global architecture that helps SIDS move from readiness to results, accelerating solar deployment through structured support, predictable procurement, and stronger international partnerships.

What it enables?

Four Pillars Working as One Continuous Flow

From early readiness through deployment and dialogue, every step connects to the next.

Frequently Asked Questions

1
How can countries join the SIDS Platform?

SIDS can join by submitting a formal expression of interest to the International Solar Alliance and designating National Focal Points for communication. Once a support letter is signed, the country's priority solar projects are assessed and onboarded onto our readiness pillar to assist with procurement readiness.

2
Does ISA run procurement under the SIDS Platform?

The ISA SIDS Platform supports with technical assistance, standardised tools, and market visibility, but governments retain full ownership and authority over all procurement decisions, timelines, and contract awards unless requested.

3
How do the Panel of Experts help?

The Panel of Experts (PoE) provides multidisciplinary support covering procurement, technology, grid integration, environmental and social safeguards, and financial advisory. They help validate project readiness, offer technical clarifications, and strengthen bid quality while respecting national sovereignty.

4
What kind of support can the country expect?

Countries receive pre-feasibility and feasibility validation, grid integration studies, tariff and regulatory advisory, project structuring support, environmental and social safeguards assistance, pipeline sequencing guidance and many more.

5
How do developers and financiers participate?

International developers can browse validated project opportunities, submit expressions of interest, and participate in competitive tenders. The platform provides enhanced market visibility, especially for smaller and more remote island markets.
